Summer Training Activities

In June, the Kansas Inservice Training System sponsored a 4-day Summer Institute held at Kansas State University. About 40 people participated in this workshop, which was offered for college credit. Teams of early childhood providers and parents were encouraged to attend. We appreciate the work of Dave Lindeman and Misty Goosen to plan and coordinate these activities on our behalf. Thanks to you both!

In July, I attended the Program Evaluation meeting in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Sponsored by the National Early Childhood Technical Assistance System (NEC*TAS), this meeting provided information about current trends and methods to determine effectiveness in programming. We agree, we all will need to be lifelong learners in this area, with the continued emphasis upon accountability. Much food for thought.

In August, state policymakers in the Infant-Toddler program, Preschool program, State Interagency Coordinating Council, and KITS continued working together to address state policy issues and plan more training about the age three transition. Facilitating this all-day effort was Jane Amundson, from Denver, Colorado, sponsored by NEC*TAS. Future training and technical assistance will be planned for the coming year.

In September, KITS is coordinating a meeting of the Windsor at least those in early childhood training programs in our four-year colleges and universities. We look forward to discussing the proposed relicensure system for teachers in Kansas. As it stands now, the proposal continues to include a combined license for early childhood and early childhood special education, birth though age eight.
